My colleagues (my users) work with Office Word all day. Day in and day out they write and write and doing whatever is possible in that program. They seldom ask for help, they already know how to use it. As for all things there is always someone that just don't know. And when they don’t know they ask the IT people. The loving, secret keeping IT people who won't laugh at them, which is something most people would like to think. Is it true? No, we do laugh and tell it to others, no name mentioned but still.
Either way, one day a man came to me asking me to help him to crop a picture in Word for him. The thing is that he asked me the same thing a while ago and it ended up with me doing all the work, so this time I had a plan
Man: Do you remember that one time with the pictures?
Me: Yeah, what about it?
Man: I need help again, could you do it?
Me: * looking at the pictures, about 20-30 of them* I can show you
Man: Nah I don't really get the hang of it
Me: Watch *showed him how to do it, in 3 clicks*
Man: I'm not sure that I'm going to remember that
Me: * rise up, walks 2-3 meters and pick a book out of a shelf* Here, it’s a How-To book for Word
*turns a few pages* here it is, step by step how you do it. Good luck!
Man: *staring at me* uhm… riiight.
For a short while he just stood there, looking at me as if he was wondering if he could talk me into doing it for me
